How can you make a cold read about someone ?

It’s another sunny hot day here in the office…  so the only sensible thing to do is close all the blinds and prevent any scrap of light getting in so I can see my monitor…  I love working through the summer!  Today’s I’m going to write about a topic that I just read from one of Cliff List’s newsletters on Cold Reading.

A cold read for the unenlightened amongst you is a technique that can be learnt to accurately determine information about peoples lives that you’ve just met.   There are people out there like Darren Brown who can do unbelievable cold reads…   I havn’t got the interest to learn how to perform cold reads in this much detail but I am interested in having a fun game to play.  I’m quite into people watching and I like the notion of making up stories about the people walking by.

This morning I’ve spent a few hours reading up on the basics of cold reads.  The basic principle behind a cold read is that people are more similar than they are different.  On a basic level you can say general statements that people can project beliefs they have about themselves into what you say.  One example I’ve shamelessly pinched from the  newsletters is:

‘There is something stressing you out. Right now, you are living your life as best you can, but in the back of your head, there’s something that you’re going to have to deal with, something bothering you.”

If you analyse the above statement this statement hold true for everyone.  Everyone in their lives no matter how insignificant is trying to do the best they can.  I know I have a few dilemmas buying a house, deadlines at work etc…

My challenge for this week is to create a cold reading routine based on the Lover, Magician, Warrior, King.  To be able to read and identify which personality type a girl has and then have a canned routine cold read for that type.
